Cannabidiol (CBD) Study: An Effective Asthma Treatment

Researchers trying to find how to combat the longtime public health concern conducted a series of tests involving the utilization of cannabidiol (CBD). Although the research used rats as subjects the results are nonetheless encouraging. With the approval of the ethics panel at Brazil’s Universidade do Extremo Sul Catarinense, and in connection with the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, researchers conducted a study using 8-week-old rats sourced from a breeding community. These rats did house five to a cage and opened to a 12-hour light cycle.

The rats were injected with chicken ovalbumin (OVA) alone or together with aluminum hydroxide. OVA is atypical to the environment and is known to impress Tp and Th2 responses. The second edition of each OVA or aluminum hydroxide was administered 14 days later. After every week, the rats got aerosol challenges using saline or an identical solution. During these latter two days of the study, 21 of the rats were divided into 3 groups–a control group, an asthma group (injected with OVA), and asthma/treatment group (injected with OVA and CBD).
Asthma/treatment received an injection once each day of an answer of CBD and TWEENⓇ80 (which was prepared immediately before administration and kept out of sunshine beforehand). Blood samples were then obtained from the rats 24 hours later so that researchers could assess their levels of cytokines. Cytokines are small proteins released by cells that have specific effects on the interaction and communication between cells and the behavior of cells.
The study acknowledged that the rats treated with CBD experienced a discount in two sorts of cytokines; referred to as Tp and Th2. Additionally, to declaring that CBD treatment was powerful in reducing cytokine levels, the study suggests that CBD may affect a discount within the larger stimuli of mucus hyper-secretion, another prominent symptom experienced by those with asthma.
